Documentary Style Family Photos
I’m so excited to share a documentary style photo session we had recently with a dear friend and talented photographer. I’ve know Amanda from Amanda Raylee Photography since 7th grade. We spent our middle school years having countless sleepovers and have been dear friends ever since. Amanda blessed us with maternity pictures just days before the early arrival of our second son, Harrison, two and a half years ago. We look back at those photos often and cherish the sweet moments they captured for us. You can imagine the excitement I felt when Amanda asked about doing a documentary style photo shoot at our home earlier this summer. As a mom of two busy little boys, I’ve realized that I take a ton of pictures of them each day, but there are very few pictures of us together. This is such a busy season of life, the boys seem to grow and change each day. Having photos to look back on as a reminder of this season is so special to this mama. Amanda spent a Friday morning at our house. It was casual family time, just hanging out and having fun. Graham and Harrison were delighted to get in the kitchen and make lemonade, one of their favorite treats.
Taking care of a dog can resemble raising an eternal two-year-old. Similar like a kid, the author relates how her dog wakes her up in the middle of the night and needs constant attention to avoid spills and mishaps. Like a little kid, the dog has no awareness of personal space or danger. Raising a two-year-old puppy has several problems, including cleaning up after it, keeping a careful eye on it, and managing its endless energy. The author bemoans the fact that, unlike a kid, the dog will never really grow out of this stage, which means the family will always be burdened with effort and tiredness.
My sweet Harrison, he will eat just about anything. He has been known to eat the peel off of fruits and vegetables without hesitation. I couldn’t help but giggle as he sunk his teeth into a whole lemon about to be washed at the sink. They were popping lemon halves in their little mouths faster than Sean and I could juice them. We ate cookies in Graham and Harrison’s new “big boy” room and partially read a new story together before they were onto their next adventure.

Amanda has such a sweet way of capturing moments that tell your story and show the personality of your little ones. You know, the sweet little face they make for what seems like two weeks and then never make again. The picture below is one of my favorites. These little boys are truly wild at heart, always on a mission. Notice how Harrison never let go of that cookie even mid fall. He’s pretty skilled at that sort of thing.
The post offers imaginative suggestions for converting a barn into a joyous winter paradise. Starting with the outside, it advises utilizing timers to reduce power bills, adorning service doors with wreaths, and matching barn lights with house lights. The article suggests decorating each stall inside the barn with personalized stockings or holding a stall decoration competition to get boarders and students involved. The article suggests adding ornaments from the rafters, putting up a tiny Christmas tree in the entryway, and decorating with the name or brand of the barn as the finishing touches. Spreading seasonal happiness and creating a warm, eye-catching atmosphere for everyone who visits the barn are the objectives.
