Peter Rabbit Easter Tablescape

As Easter approaches this year, things feel a little uncertain and chaotic. Never would I have imagined that we would be in the middle of a pandemic. I am so thankful to be home with my boys during this time and want to make the most of it. Weeks ago, I had visions of a fun an whimsical Easter table filled with fresh garden veggies like cabbage, radishes and all you would expect from Mr. McGregor’s garden. With the stay at home order in place, I wanted to make sure our family is doing its part and staying home unless it’s absolutely essential. Even though I’m not running out to the grocery store to grab all of those garden veggies I had in mind, I dug the carrots and celery out of my fridge and pulled together a scaled down version of my Easter table vision.

This tablescape is a little different than previous ones I’ve put together and I wanted it to have a fun and casual feel. I chose Peter Rabbit as this years Easter decor theme. I have always loved Peter Rabbit and it seemed like the perfect theme this year as we’ve been working hard on our garden here at home.

Several weeks ago, I picked up a package of Peter Rabbit Easter egg hunt figures while browsing at HomeGoods. I knew I’d want to use them for Easter and I’m so glad I grabbed them. It was fun to incorporate Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck into the tablescape and I can use them again during our egg hunt. Everything else I was able to find while shopping my home. My favorite blue striped tea towel made the perfect sub for a fancy table cloth or runner. I grabbed the vintage picnic basket at a thrift store a while back for eight dollars! I stacked a few Peter Rabbit books I gathered from the boys book shelves and incorporated a faux lavender plant and a pot of basil I started from seed. The adorable radish towel was part of a dish towel trio I recently purchased and made me smile since I wasn’t able to add the real deal to my tablescape.

Truth is, I’m not even sure what we will eat on Easter this year and I’m not worried about it. I have no intention of heading to the store unless I have to, so it may be sandwiches. I’ve had to get creative with meals as I dig through pantry staples, but even if I don’t have something super fancy to serve, a glass of water with a lemon or orange slice is fun and festive. My four year old was amazed by the oranges and lemons and just wanted to know how I made them stay on the glasses. I think it’s important not to get too hung up on what we don’t have right now and make the most of what we do. There is joy in the simple things, we just have to look for it.
